Treasurer's Office files, 1958-1969.

The series consists of files of Ralph D. Abernathy as Treasurer of the Finance Office for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) from 1958-1969. Correspondence includes incoming and outgoing letters (1957-1969) relating to SCLC activities, contributions to SCLC, fundraising activities, and Abernathy's speaking engagements. Memoranda (1963-1969) documents interoffice communications between Abernathy and Finance Office staff but also between other SCLC departments. The financial reports and budgets (1959-1968) include statements of income and disbursements as well as expense breakdowns for the New York and Alabama offices. Manuscripts (1958-1967) consist of publications, speeches, and sermons written by Abernathy. Itineraries (1962-1966, 1968) contain schedules for Abernathy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and other SCLC staff. Lawsuits (1960-1964) include correspondence and legal documents pertaining to cases challenging Alabama segregation laws.
